Story of a Photo

About a girl, her diary, and dance. (She writes almost everyday, but I only selected one entry per year, on her birthday.)

June 14th, 2005
Dear Diary,
Dance is so fun and I love the people! Yesterday was my 8th birthday, and I had a dance recital. I did really nice and Mom took me to Dairy Queen afterwards and I ate ice cream. Yum! I can't wait until next Saturday, I start my new ballet class. The teacher is Mrs. Rose, she is so nice!!
Dad is yelling at me and telling me to go bed. Good night.

 June 11th, 2010
Dear Diary,
Today I was at school and guess who showed up?! Dad! He brought me cookies and a balloon, and wrote me a PASS TO GET OUT OF SCHOOL! I asked him why in the car, and he said the it was because my Grandma Annabeth, on Mom's side, passed away this morning. I was really shocked, because I thought it was for a good reason, or better yet, no reason at all. I thought that he just wanted to let me out of school because he loved me, or some cheesy reason. I cried all afternoon and didn't eat supper. Mom and Dad took a walk and I played my favorite piano song, "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin. It is a happy song, and always makes me feel good! Better yet, I made up a solo to go along with it, and I danced around the basement to the beautiful beat. It helped me get through the sad time. It kinda sucks that this happened two days before my 13th birthday.

June 12th, 2014
Tomorrow's my 17th birthday, and I am so excited!! It's also a Saturday today, so we decided to celebrate my birthday today. I got to spend the whole day with Mom and Dad. They let me sleep in until 11am, and when I woke up my room was covered, and I mean COVERED in decorations. The instant I opened my eyes, I saw the figures of Mom and Dad, and "Happy Birthday" was being sung really loudly. I let out a little giggle, being still groggy, and hugged Mom. She asked me what I wanted to do, and I said simply, "dance." She laughed and told me to get dressed. Ten minutes later we were in the car headed to the mall to go shopping. Not for school clothes--but dance stuff. I got new pointe shoes, three dance outfits, new hair supplies, and I visited my dream studio. This is the best part...MOM SIGNED ME UP FOR A CLASS AT MY DREAM STUDIO. (I won't say the name just in case several people read this diary.) Today is the start of a new dance experience. I am apart of a new studio, in an intense ballet course, and apart of the high school varsity team!

June 13th, 2015
Dance is my passion, dance takes all of my time. I live and breathe the sport. The sudden adrenaline
rush as you enter the stage, the loud cheers from your family as you perform, the feeling of putting on new pointe shoes...that's the best. I have been in dance all of my life, and have loved every moment. Being flexible is amazing, because you can do some really cool things that would otherwise be physically impossible. I always dream of dancing professionally, but that is NOT realistic. That's where I must stop this diary. I've reached the end of my dance story, and I graduated last week. Graduating marked the end of one BIG chapter in my life, and the start of a new one. I will miss it so incredibly much! Today is my 18th birthday, but unlike all of my other birthdays, I will not be spending it doing what I have loved so much...dancing.

open up and see
all the love, the joy, the glamour
that is to be seen.
Creating with your mind
body and soul
lets your time rewind
and you never grow old.
Art is a door
your hands are the key,
art lets you soar
art lets you be free.

Discover Why I Love Crafting

Crafting is something I have enjoyed for as long as I can remember. It is an outlet for creativity, a way to give joy, and a social connection. At Crafted by Mimi, I want to share my creativity with others, and find pleasure in encouraging those I teach to discover an outlet for their creative side. There is an undeniable joy in crafting a card, scrapbook, or other hand-made gift, but the most joyful moment is when you give your creation to someone and it brightens their day. Sharing the joy and friendship of crafting is a thrill all its own. The more people sitting around the table, sharing ideas and laughter, the more fun is had by all. I think this is especially true with hand-made gifts like cards and scrapbooks.

Crafting has numerous forms, from sewing and painting, to crocheting and papercrafting. And that’s just the beginning! I have enjoyed learning each of these forms of creative expression, and I want to share my experience with others. This brings me joy because I get to meet new people, share my successes and lessons, and witness the joy others experience creating a gift for someone they love.

When my daughter was born I started sewing and have kept it up for 40 years. Scrapbooking became important to me 16 years ago when my grandson was born. I wanted to be the storyteller in my family and keep the memories alive. Stamping and card making followed close behind and I feel that I'm sending a part of me in each envelope.

So much of what I do at Crafted by Mimi makes my corner of the world a brighter place. Join my friends and I at one of our next classes or club meetings and you’ll soon agree that crafting with your hands makes for joy filled hearts. As you can see, I really do love it all.

Now you know what motivates me to teach, and why I love crafting. So, contact me about joining in the fun.
......................................................
Do you love crafting?

Are you a crafter? I personally love crafting. There’s something very calming about working with my hands, and I love the final product. I always wish I did more crafting than I actually do. Knitting and needlepoint are my two favorite crafty hobbies. I wish I could crochet and make jewelry. And I’d really like to get more into sewing again :-)
I sometimes dream of being good enough at crafting to open up my own little Etsy shop or farmer’s market stall. The life of a professional crafter seems glamorous to me, especially when I’ve been spending too much time on my computer. I believe that it is very important for us to do work with our hands – from gardening to writing to cooking. And definitely crafting! I’m afraid that nothing I make is really that unique, but I still enjoy the process. I enjoy giving away handmade goods made with love, even if they aren’t going to turn heads or end up on Pinterest.
Right now I’m working on a warm wool cowl for Mr. Blogthings, as we are going to be in a very cold place next weekend. It’s something nice to do while I catch up with my favorite shows on Netflix. Anyone else a huge crafter while watching online shows addict? Are you working on anything fun, crafting wise?
Anyway, if you like crafting, or even if you’re just crafting curious, you should take my quiz – What Crafty Hobby Should You Take Up? Then please comment below and tell me which crafty hobby you should take up – and which one you do, if any. I have a feeling that quiz takers are also a pretty crafty bunch, so let me know what sort of creative things you do.

        "I am an artist."
I am an artist.

My definition of art is creating
something with my hands that is an
expression of who I am.

Art is a part of me.
I can't escape the urge to create,
to get out my feelings in the way
of paper and glue. Or losing myself
behind the lens of my camera.
I am so thankful for my art.

It's my own personal therapy.
And in the process I am leaving my mark
in the works I create.

I am an artist.

And there is nothing else in the world
I would rather be.

Here are the 5 best Pinterest fails ever. (In my opinion.)

5. I'd call the attempted cupcakes real Cookie "Monsters." They really scare me.

4. One of these snowmen needs to make a diet and exercise New Year's Resolution. Take a wild guess which one it is.

3. I salute you for your effort! But my sides are hurting from laughing...

"1-minute brownie" might possibly be our favorite 3 words of all time. AND you can microwave them using just a mug. What can go wrong?
Get the recipe from Spark Recipes »
Don't turn your back on the microwave, guys, and pay attention to the power levels. Fondue anyone?

2. This is bacon my heart. (Excuse the pun...)

Romantic bacon. Does it get any better? Looks pretty easy too....
Get the recipe from The Paper Mama »
Apparently not. These are breakin' our bacon heart.

1. One of these is a hedgehog, and one of these is a...uhhh...ummm...well, I really don't know how to describe it. It's like whoever made this cake purposefully ruined it. I don't know how it could go THAT bad.

Drawing Set Review

Hey QTs! What's up? Today I will be reviewing an item that I found and purchased on Amazon.com, Enjoy!

Today I am writing a review on a Darice 80-Piece Deluxe Art Set that I purchased on Amazon.com. Click here to view this set on Amazon.

First off, I would like to start off with the quality of the set. It wasn't the best overall quality, when you consider the materials inside. However, the wooden box was made of real wood, and had a nice finish. It is also very durable, when I dropped the box, none of the utensils inside fell out of place. (However, do not purposely drop your box.) When you first open the box, it is like opening a treasure chest. There are more paints, oils, pastels, crayons, color pencils than I ever thought there would be. The oil pastels are made with a REAL oil base, and the color that comes off is very bright and smooth.
But I will say this, you are ultimately getting what you paid for. This box has flaws, such as the metal latches that you open and close the box with. The latches on mine were a bit dysfunctional and are very stingy. Also, the color pencils and pastels are made from a cheap manufacturing company and are just like color pencils you can buy in a box of Crayola.  You'd do so much better to buy separate, decent sets of oil pastels, watercolors, colored pencils, and drawing pencils. None of these items are necessarily expensive on their own, anyway.
Ultimately, this would great to get for a child or a non-serious artist. However, if you are looking for high quality, spend a few more bucks on a professional art brand...you will be so much more satisfied.

There are a few reasons why I decided to create my blog about crafts and DIYs. One reason is because crafting is my passion and I love learning new crafts. Another reason is because I also love reading other craft blogs and wanted to make my own.

One of the best DIY blogs that I have seen is called "A Beautiful Mess". I would give this blog an award for the layout and design, because the photography is sharp, and the website is clean, yet full of color and has a crafty feel.

A Crafty Quote

Hey QTs! What's up? Today I will be sharing my favorite craft related quote. Enjoy!

Mickey Mouse once said, "There is no right or wrong when it comes to making art, making sure that you are having fun is the most important part. Splash a little paint, draw a little line, just make sure that you have fun...each and every time." I like this quote because it is so true, and explains that crafts aren't meant to be perfect. They are meant to be your own fun creation, that you enjoyed making. This quote relates to my topic since I am writing about crafts and DIYs.
